It all adds up for less sleep for you. So, if you are a parent that is feeling a bit sleep deprived, check out the tips below for some much-needed help.
Bedtime for you
As human beings, we are creatures of routine. We respond well to having a set time to do things. So much so that our body can even get used to doing things at a certain time.
For example of you always eat your evening meal at 7 pm. Then by 7 pm your body start to get hungry because it is expecting to be fed. The same goes for setting a time for going to bed. After a while of heading up to bed at the same time, your body starts to understand that this is when it is time to go to sleep. So will start to get tired at that point in the day.
You can make use of this by making a bedtime routine for yourself and the kids and sticking to it. It might not work perfectly for the first few weeks. But after that it should be pretty easy to keep to the routine, It’s just a matter of holding to it until it becomes a habit.
A comfortable sleep space
Most people don’t realize the effect that their environment has on them. But something else that people that are not getting enough sleep can benefit from is a restful bedroom. Keeping a bedroom clean and tidy can help you keep calm when it comes to bedtime. Although it’s not easy if there are toys all over the place!
Also having nice bed linens and a good mattress like the Somzi foam mattress can make your time in bed much more comfortable. If you are more comfortable when you are sleeping. You are likely to toss and turn less, and so wake up less in the night. That will give you a much better night sleep.
One of the reason that we as parents or the kids don’t drop off to sleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow is overstimulation. If you have spent the evening shooting aliens on your Xbox, or are worried about a stressful day tomorrow, then sleep can be elusive.
That is why it is essential that you take some time to relax and decompress before you try to get to sleep. Some people do this by reading in bed. Others listen to music. Or you could try using some sleep-inducing lavender essential oils.
But if these aren’t working for you, then you can give a sleep hypnosis CD or a try. Or, even try some specific relaxing exercising like breathing techniques.
