In order to help your school going kids become better essay writers, it is paramount for you to encourage them to write practice essays as much as possible. Give them small tasks like writing about what they did during their day, what they learned about and other subjects that may be of interest to them. Encourage them to write every day when they get home from school, each day writing about a different topic. Having them write essays about things that interest them will encourage them to develop a writing culture. As a tip to help them with their writing, give them books with sample essays or storybooks that they can read and get inspired to write. Also, when you are encouraging your child to write, adopt a more supportive role rather than an authoritarian one. Ask them what they want to write about and whether they need your help to do it. Also, suggest to them a couple of topics write about. When they have an essay complete, go through it with them, helping them make changes to areas they had made errors, while suggesting vocabulary to use in place of commonly used words. This will give their essays a richness and make it better to read.
If by any chance the methods you employ do not yield any results in improving your child’s writing, consider looking for additional help from a tutor or an online course. You may not have the right qualifications to help your child improve their writing but getting an expert in the field could prove to be a fruitful investment. Consider looking for professional tutors, specifically in the writing field, who have the experience and the pointers for impressive essay writing. If professional tutors are not available, you can get help from older students in the neighborhood who are good at writing. The school can also provide a tutor for your child, all at a lesser price than professionals. If tutors are not an option, there are many creative writing courses offered on the internet. These are actually more convenient since all you need is a computer and internet, and it is more convenient and cheaper than tutoring considering it is available at any time of day, all week long.
3.Encourage them to read
A good essay should have three very important parts; an introduction, a body and a conclusion. In order to get a good flowing essay, you should encourage your child to do a lot of reading. A good book with good grammar contains these three parts and encouraging your child to develop a reading culture will help them know how to organize their thoughts and put them down in writing. Combining reading of books with practising will get the child to be a better writer. Before they can write their own essay have them establish the writer’s main points in the books they have read and put them down. With that done, ask them to do the same with their own ideas, have them make a plan of how they are going to organize their thoughts and write a flowing essay. Reading past written essays will also help them get an idea how essays should be written.
