3 Creative things you can do with a blank baby gown

A decoration or two on a baby gown can accentuate your baby’s look as well as pass on a message. A blank baby gown can be transformed into a beautiful piece with just a few tricks and creativity. All you have to do is have a clear purpose of the design, whether images or letters and then pick out the colors that you want. Here are some creative things that you can do to a baby gown that will make it look elegant.

Lettering and coloring using a fabric marker

Lettering using a fabric marker is used when you want to write letters or a message on the baby gown. A fabric marker will draw clear, straight lines. Alternatively, you can color the baby gown using a fabric marker if you want patches of colors on the gown. However, coloring uses a lot of the marker ink and isn’t an economical option.

What you need

Fabric marker pen or paint pen (Pick your preferred color)

Procedure

Lay the baby gown on a flat surface. Hand draw the letters that you want on the gown such as the baby’s name using the marker pen and then let it dry before continuing. In case the color is not clear enough, repeat on the already drawn letters. You can also draw flowers among other images.

When coloring, block print the image you want on the gown using a paint pen. A marker and paint pen are versatile and easier to use instead of a brush which is good for drawing thin lines. They can be used with rubber stamps or stencils as well.

Stenciling with fabric paint

What you need

Stencil paper or thin cardboard

A craft knife/ scissors (should be sharp)

Procedure

Draw the images or letters that you want on the stencil. Cut out the stencil paper/cardboard once using the craft knife to ensure that the edges are smooth. You can turn the stencil around as you cut to make cutting easier.

Hold the stencil in place using your free hand to avoid cutting out rough edges. Remove the cutout image or letter, smoothen any rough edges that are still showing and your stencil should be ready for painting.

Place the letters on the baby gown and apply fabric paint. Ensure that you place a paper inside the baby gown to prevent the paint from getting to the other side of the gown. Leave the paint for a few hours to let it dry. Do not remove the paper placed inside until it’s completely dry.

Stamping with a fabric marker

You can print on the baby gown using a fabric marker with a non-absorbent item or rubber stamps.

What you need

Fabric Marker

Rubber stamp or non-absorbent item

Procedure

Rub the fabric marker onto the rubber stamp to add some of the paint. Stamp the color onto the side of the fabric where you want it to stick by pressing it gently so that the color can stick well. Once you’ve applied the color on the stamp, stamp it fast and do not let it dry.

For those who are unsure of how the final color will look, test it on a different fabric before using it on the gown.
